Rescue [day 1]
[You Need Rescue]
This title of this devotional might be a bit misleading. No, you do not need the song “Rescue” in your life (although, I do hope you've listened). What you really need is to be rescued. You need it and I need it. We're all in the same position. Understanding who we are and what we really need is so important. We all need rescue.
Humanity is broken and lost. In the Bible, we are described as "dead in sin" and "children of wrath." Scripture says that we have no way to fix any of that on our own. Left on our own, we would always be broken and lost. This all sounds pretty bleak so far. Fortunately, that is not the end of the story. God has a different plan.
We're not able to fix what's broken for mankind, but there is One who is. His name is Jesus. He has brought us out of darkness and made us alive with Him! He is full of grace, mercy, and forgiveness. The best part is, He offers that to all of you.
Whether you have been following Jesus for five minutes or fifty years you still need rescue. We all stumble and fall into sin and Jesus is offering to rescue us, and not just once. He will rescue us time and time again. The Bible says that His mercies are new every morning. His grace is unending and His love is immeasurable. There is no other rescue. There are so many imitations and false promises of rescue, but none will follow through. Jesus is who you need.
I pray that today you would see Jesus, call out to Him, and let Him be your rescue.
Scripture Reading:
Ephesians 2:1-10 1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in ChristJesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Romans 3:23-24 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus
Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Psalm 18:1-3 1 I love you, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
Prayer:
Lord, you are full of grace, mercy, love, and forgiveness. You are my savior - my only rescue. I know that I cannot gain salvation on my own. Thank you for being my rescue. Thank you for forgiving me and redeeming me. I call out to you today. Help me to rely on you and trust in you alone. Amen.
